I get this question often. In my early days of Velodrome track racing, back in the mid 2000’s, there wasn’t a lot of imaginative options. Weight sessions in gyms and riding bikes on very basic home trainers with not much more than a Heart Rate monitor.

Now, there are options galore, Virtual ride platforms, “smart” bike trainers, power meters, ways to connect with others from all over the world via numerous platforms. It’s a marvelous time to create a personalized method that works and allows others to enjoy the training process without leaving home.

Through my coaching platform, Rat Racer Coaching, I have devised a method that came from pre covid days when I hosted in person rides inside CARS Bike shop using not very smart Kurt Kinetic wheel on bike trainers and Coach Troy DVD training sessions. 2018 and 2019, that worked well. It did require you attend, bring a bike and hop on equipment I supplied and have some shared fun at the bike shop.

Then, of course, Covid, so training in a group wasn’t an option. Zoom arrived opening a process to do all kinds of good collaborations without leaving home. Virtual ride platforms like Zwift and others opened and training options exploded.

I took the opportunity to create my own training version melding Zoom, home trainers and trainees, the Training Peaks coach platform and now the Training Peaks Virtual ride platform. You can click the above link to my website that has details about the winter series that is FREE . It is open to anyone who can access Zoom and has some way to train on a bicycle located anywhere in the world in your own comfy environment. No special, expensive equipment needed. Just ride what you have and enjoy the comradery of like-minded bike riders of all levels from casual rider to racer. (Disclaimer, to take advantage of the Training Peaks Virtual portion, you will need a Training Peaks Premium account which can be purchased from Training Peaks on a month-to-month basis or a yearly basis. I get NO proceeds from that subscription)

The indoor training season runs from late November to late March, yearly. Interested, connect with me and give it a try, no required attendance, no cost other than some sweat and some energy expenditure.
